217Plus Component Models Spreadsheet Calculator bundled with HDBKPLUS and HDBKPLUS-PGF

This product is a MS Excel® representation of the 217Plus™ Component Models and includes the Process Grade Factor Spreadsheet for the 217Plus™ Handbook and the Handbook of 217Plus™ Reliability Prediction Models in PDF format.

The purpose of this Workbook is to automate the process of calculating component failure rates using the 217Plus™ models contained in the Reliability Information Analysis Center (RIAC) "Handbook of 217Plus™ Reliability Prediction Models." While it is not necessary to own the Handbook in order to use this product, the Handbook does provide extensive detail relating to the 217Plus Component and System model forms and the model development process. Note that the summarized failure rates make the assumption that the 217Plus™ System Model Process Grade Factor (PGF) multiplier is equal to 1.0 using standard industry processes, as follows:

217Plus Equation

The 217Plus™ methodology applies a series of Process Grade Factors (PGF) that reflect variability in processes related to parts, design, manufacturing, system management, and other system operational conditions to come up with a factor to multiply the sum of the individual component failure rates resulting from this Excel® workbook (λIA) to arrive at an assembly failure rate. Using standard industry processes, and under nominal conditions and applications, the combined PGFs in the equation result in a multiplier of 1.0. Therefore, the results generated by this Excel Workbook tool (summation of component failure rates) can be directly interpreted as the assembly failure rate. For scenarios where processes are better or worse than industry standards, or conditions/applications are not typical, the full 217Plus™ PGF methodology should be applied. The definition and application of 217Plus™ PGFs are described in more detail in the RIAC "Handbook of 217Plus™ Reliability Prediction Models." The PGF methodology has been automated in a complementary MS Excel tool called "Process Grade Factor Spreadsheet for the 217Plus™ Handbook" and is fully integrated into the RIAC 217Plus™ software tool.

Ideal for the individual or small company that may not be able to invest in an expensive software tool, this Workbook contains four tabs that enable the user to perform 217Plus reliability predictions at the component or the assembly level: (1) The "Environmental and Operational Defaults" tab is a reference tab that is used to select the appropriate pre-defined or custom-defined environmental and operational profile parameter defaults that can be used as inputs to the 217Plus™ component failure rate models, (2) The "Complete Models" tab accepts user inputs based on the preferred profiles identified above, or allows the user to input their own values, for each category of 217Plus™ component model type, (3) The "Software Models" tab computes the 217Plus™ software failure rate based on the user inputs provided, (4) The ""Lambda – Initial Assessment"" tab allows the user to copy and paste component model rows from Tab 2, and duplicate or modify them as appropriate, to determine the failure rate of an assembly. The user can also copy and paste a software failure rate from Tab 3, or insert their own failure rate for non-modeled parts or components onto this Tab (such as those converted to calendar hours from the RIAC Nonelectronic Part Reliability Databook - NPRD).

Two articles provided with the DEMO download present an overview of the 217Plus™ methodology, so that the user can better understand the spreadsheet tool capabilities prior to purchase.
